Inpatient vs. Outpatient: CMS releases new pamphlet

Email This Post Print This Post

The issue of whether a Medicare patient is considered an inpatient or outpatient has been a hot topic among both patients and providers for some time. In response to this issue, CMS recently developed, along with their office of external affairs, a pamphlet intended to give detailed descriptions of the criteria used to determine whether someone is an inpatient or outpatient. It also includes a chart that details some common situations and how Medicare will pay accordingly.
