MedPac recommends increase in 2010 hospital payments

Email This Post Print This Post
The Medicare Payment Advisory Commission (MedPac) recently provided Congress with its recommendations for 2010, which were approved by the panel last month, but will now need to be approved by Congress. The recommendations are as follows:
  • Hospital inpatient and outpatient services would receive increased payments equal to that of the market basket index. The market basket index—also known as the consumer price index--is a measure of prices and inflation on certain goods and services in a market.
  • Long-term care hospitals (LTCH) would receive a full market basket update, minus an adjustment for an expected increase in productivity for LTCHs.
  • Skilled nursing facilities, inpatient rehabilitation facilities, and home health agencies would not receive an update.
