Economic stimulus bill includes whistleblower protection

The House of Representatives’ $819 million proposed economic stimulus bill provides more than just a shot in the arm to the U.S. economy. The latest draft of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 also protects federal employees who blow the whistle on employers who violate the False Claims Act.

Section 1243 of the bill states whistleblowers cannot be demoted, fired, or otherwise discriminated against, and establishes a procedure for whistleblowers who feel such events have taken place.
