ACGME announces award recipients
The ACGME posted the winners for the 2010 Parker J. Palmer Courage to Lead Award, Parker J. Palmer Courage to Teach Award, David C. Leach, MD Award, and the GME Program Coordinator Excellence Award.
Congratulations to all of the winners, but a special congratulations to Jeri L. Whitten, C-TAGME, who won one of the GME Coordinator Awards. Jeri authored our book, The Program Information Form Made Simple: A Guide to Completing the ACGME PIF. I had the pleasure of working with Jeri on this project and had the opportunity to witness her professionalism, knowledge of graduate medical education, and dedication.
Jeri will also speak at our 4th Residency Program Management Workshop, Oct. 22-23, in Atlanta. She’s presenting several sessions, including one on site visit and PIF preparation. (Register before Oct. 1 to receive the $200 early bird discount)
Congratulations, Jeri!
Also a special congratulations to another GME Coordinator Award winner, Sherry Berka. I interviewed Sherry for a RPA article and got to experience firsthand her breadth of knowledge about all things residency-program related.
I look forward to watching you get your awards at the ACGME conference next year!

It is such an honor to be one of the five coordinators chosen for the award. While I am personally honored, it is most exciting that the ACGME is pubically acknowledging the value and importance of coordinators to the GME educational process. Hopefully this is the start of more and better things for coordinators.
