Monday’s Poll: Feeding the filing monster

How often do you think something lands on your desk that needs to be filed? Once every five minutes? A few times an hour?

Although it’s not the most glamorous part of a coordinator’s job, filing is important. If your program director asks for a resident’s file, you don’t want to be frantically shuffling through a stack of papers looking for the most recent evaluations.

i keep an alphabetical file sorter on my desk and as “papers” land on my desk, i try to slip them in the appropriate pocket and then at least every couple of weeks i file everything, at least this way if we are looking for something – at least it is alphabetical – as most of my “papers” pertain to the residents. anything non-resident goes in a file box which is generally cleaned out once a week.
