Monday’s Poll: Coordinators on the GMEC
This topic sparked much discussion during the session on coordinator communication skills and the 2009 ACGME Educational Conference.
Several coordinators expressed that their position is not represented on the GMEC although their jobs are significantly impacted by many of the decisions the GMEC makes. At the conference, it seemed like the majority of attendees’ institutions do not include coordinators on the GMEC, but I thought a Monday’s Poll would give everyone a good idea of how common this is.

I think we all realize that this is the way it is..we are really just a means to the end. They need us, and may listen occasionally, but when it comes right down to it, we’re just not in the same league…and we never will be.
Hello everyone:
While my coordinators attend the GMEC meeting and are active participants, they do not have voting privileges.
I have been working in the GME field for 30 years. I have been involved on a daily basis with medical students, residents, fellows and faculty, but never have I felt that our efforts are given the weight they deserve. This just seems to be the way that it is, regardless of the fact we impact each and every one of these future physicians/surgeons.
