Spreading holiday cheer to residents

The holiday season is not easy for those residents who do not have family close by or who cannot go home because of rotation and call schedules. This is certainly true for surgical residents in my program.

Often times, it’s people within the program who help bring residents cheer around the holidays. Many of my residents who happen to have Thanksgiving off invite others to join them for a feast or festivities. My husband and I also invite residents to join us for the holiday, and we invite them to our open house party the Saturday after Thanksgiving.  We also try to have a dinner sometime between Christmas and New Years.

Happy Thanksgiving to all of you!
