Creative holiday party ideas

Alright, I know it’s not even Thanksgiving yet, but take a look at your local drug store, grocery store, or mall-there’s no question that the December holiday season is here. That means it’s time to party!

Now, don’t get me wrong, program or departmental holiday parties are great. I love to dress up just as much as the next girl and chit chat idly with residents and their significant others. However, after three years of the same party, I’m starting to get a little bored.

I proposed a new idea this year: A holiday potluck and open mic night!

My thought process went something like this:

We have residents from a number of different countries representing all of the major faiths. Why not give everyone a chance to share a little piece of their traditions with the group? A casual, family-friendly, everyone-bring-something affair generates a level of excitement that you don’t get with your standard country club-catered event.

The ‘open mic’ portion of the evening was borne out of the (unusual?) number of residents we have with musical talent. I have solo artists, band members, and singers. Some even walked away from recording contracts to pursue medicine. What could be more fun than a giant resident jam band?

I would love to hear other creative ideas! Leave a comment below!
