Creative holiday party ideas
Alright, I know it’s not even Thanksgiving yet, but take a look at your local drug store, grocery store, or mall-there’s no question that the December holiday season is here. That means it’s time to party!
Spreading holiday cheer to residents
The holiday season is not easy for those residents who do not have family close by or who cannot go home because of rotation and call schedules. This is certainly true for surgical residents in my program.
Monday’s Poll: Talking turkey
I can’t help it. . . I have food on my mind! Last night, I had 10 of my friends over for a pre-Thanksgiving feast. After spending about seven hours in the kitchen, I thought this poll was appropriate. If I left your favorite off the list, write it in the comment section below!
Have a Happy Thanksgiving from everyone at HCPro!
Liven up your didactic lectures with audience response systems

Introducing guest blogger Mike Pistoria, DO, FACP
Editor’s Note: Hello Residency Manager Blog readers! I’d like to introduce you to our first guest blogger, Mike Pistoria, DO, FACP. His blog entries will appear on the third or fourth Thursday of every month, so look out for his posts! Now, without further ado, I turn it over to Dr. Pistoria. . .
Is this thing on? (tap, tap) Sorry, wrong medium! Well, hello out there! This is my first attempt at blogging, so cut me some slack for these initial posts…

Here’s a synopsis of the biggest and most beneficial changes we’ve made. Hopefully, there’s something here you can implement in your own program.
Little touches go a long way during recruitment
I just realized this is my fourth recruitment season. For those of you playing along at home, here is the progression I’ve gone through:
Program spotlight: Medical error transparency
One of my favorite health care blogs is Paul Levy’s Running a Hospital. Levy is the president and CEO of Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC) here in Boston. He covers every topic imaginable, and last week, he hit on a great residency-related topic: medical error transparency.
Monday’s Poll: Post interview questionnaire
Residency and race
Teaching residents how to communicate cross-culturally in order to provide the best patient care is a a hot topic in residency education. I recently completed an article for the December issue of Residency Program Alert, which talks about developing a cultural competency curriculum.
