From Chicago: Coordinator career advice and an idea for faculty
Hello All!!
We’re half way through our first day of the 3rd Annual Residency Management Workshop! This morning, attendees heard presentations on trends in GME, how to handle disruptive residents, a coordinator “boot camp”, and a program director “boot camp”.
A few interesting tidbits. . .
- From our session on GME trends: Franklin Medio, PhD mentioned that it is not a bad idea to have a faculty manual. Programs have a manual for residents that defining what is expected from them, why not have one for the faculty?
- From our coordinator boot camp: Jeri Whitten, C-TAGME spoke about what a coordinator can do to advocate for herself (or himself). One of the tips many coordinators found helpful is to rewrite your job description in the language of management. Coordinators no longer type, answer, or file. Instead, they create, coordinator, maintain, and supervise.
I have to get back to the PIF session, but check back later for more from Chicago!
