  1. Sabine:

My department includes Centralized Scheduling (including Surgery). This area is also responsible for obtaining all physician orders for our facility. We obtain these orders via faxes which are imported into our document imaging system and then are attached to the appropriate patient account. Let me know if there is anything that I can do to help.

  2. I too have an area for Centralized Scheduling. Currently they are responsibile for Radiology and Oncology, but this will be expanding. Depending on the service needed the office either faxes the order before we schedule or the patient is responsible to bring the order with them at the time of service. If a patient presents and we cannot get the order from the office the procedure is rescheduled. This does not happen often and if we see it is we look at what office, what service, etc. in an effort to improve our process. Our facility is also looking at implementing an inpatient centralized scheduling so we can make certain patient flow is working properly and efficiently.

  3. I have on-line orders, but we have not moved into Centralized Scheduling yet. That is our next step, so I, too, am interested in anything anyone has to share in this arena.

We are very pleased with our on-line ordering process. Our orders are compliant, legible and provide the appropriate codes, a check for Medical Necessity is also done, and communication with our physician community is streamlined and efficient. Documents, such as H&P can be electronically attached to the order as well. The process also has a fax option for those offices who are not set up with the internet or with an EMR who do not wish to enter information into into the system. This allows for more complete order capture and indexing. Please let me know if I can assist in any way.

  4. I would love to talk to everyone about your Centralized scheduling. My company is in the final stages of developing an “all encompassing” patient access solution. It’s core is a web based physician ordering solution but it also process fax and phone orders as well. No order is misplaced, every order is legible and complete. I would love to talk with you to get your feedback and make sure we are hitting the mark with our newest solution. our solution includes physician ordering as I mentioned as well as medical necessity, insurance verification, cost estimation, electronic ABN attachment, Pre-Cert attachment, real-time reporting, scheduling, call back logs, queues, audit trails, full integration and auto population, kiosks, POS collections, surveys, and a lot more. I think you would be very intrigued with our solution and I would love the opportunity to hear your feedback! Thanks for all your help!

  5. Michelle, I would love to know what company you use for your online physician orders.

Justin, I would love to know what company you work for. I have not seen that many companies that do what you do. We have demo’d one company and are looking for others to demo.

  6. Do centralized scheduling and our department is gatekeeper on faxed orders for all scheduled and walk in testing. We do not have online fax server. All orders are faxed to central fax machine and scanned into document imaging software called RASI
