I recently took and passed the CHAM exam. We are now in the process of deciding what type of raise I will receive for this certification. Do any of you have a $$ amount or percentage increase that employees will receive if they pass the CHAA or CHAM? My employees who have passed the CHAA currently receive a $1 per-hour increase.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

At MUSC, employees receive a $750 one time bonus for passing CHAA or CHAM national certification exam. We do not pay for the employee to take the exam.

I have been Registration Manager for 12 years. I manage Admissions, Out-patient and E.R. Registration. We have a pre-op nurse who takes care of the surgery patient. You stated that your staff who passed CHAA received $1.00 hour increase. That is a great amount. It has been seven years since most of my staff passed the CHAA exam. We are a small hospital with 40 bed capacity for Inpatient and Observation. We offer Out-patient Labs, Radiology, Cardio, Out-patient surgery and Emergency Department. My staff received $0.25 an hour as diffential pay. It would have been great if I could have given them more. As manager, I received around $1.00 per hour increase and again that was over seven years ago. I think that $2.00 an hour increase would be a good estimate. It also depends on how large your hospital is. I only manage 11 staff members and that keeps me busy. I am also a working manager and have no problem helping out my staff when needed, but again, we are a small rural hospital that allows me time to do that as necessary.
Beth, good luck and I hope this has helped you.

I received $1 / hour raise for passing in 2006, however, all costs I had to cover.
My registration staff is currently taking the CHAA, however, instead of raises, the hospital is paying for the exams for them.

Depending on the years experience the staff has upon hiring, recently certified staff will see an increase of $1.44 to $3.20 per/hour. All newly certified staff (regardless of experience) are increased to $10.26 per/hour. Plus the hospital pays for the exam fee upon certification.

the CHAA is part of a career ladder for patient access rep’s the career ladder has 5 rungs, each step is achieved by testing and passing at 85% as well as behaviors etc. the first three steps receive 25 cent, the fourth 40 cent, and the fifth, the CHAA receives 50 cent, so they can recieve 1.65 above their base wage, the supervisors are eligible for the CHAM and receive $1 if they pass. the hospital pays for the CHAA and CHAM, if they fail the cost is up to them to take it again

Congratulations on passing your CHAM exam!
Thank you to all who have commented, this thread will be very helpful in my efforts to negotiate a salary increase for my staff when obtaining their CHAA, which I am including in my career ladder plan.

Antionette, would you consider sharing your career ladder plan and the expectations?
