Hospital dinged for waste disposal practices

A New Hampshire hospital was fined for improper disposal of pharmaceutical waste.

An inspection by the New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services found that Concord Hospital was sending hazardous pharmaceutical waste to unauthorized waste disposal facilities and was isued a $205,000 fine, according to Waste & Recycling News, May 31.

Concord hospital admitted that it “unintentionally violated state environmental law,” and it agreed to pay the fine and make arrangements to settle the allegations, according to the report.

In lieu of a $50,000 fine reduction, the hospital will provide free pharmaceutical waste disposal training to other healthcare facilities.
