APIC advises on infection prevention when visiting the nail salon or tattoo parlor
If you’re thinking about heading to the nail salon for a little pampering or getting a new tattoo, the Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology (APIC) reminds that without proper precaution, you could be putting yourself at risk for infection.
A May 18 news release from the Association lists 11 specific items to check for and conditions to avoid when visiting a nail salon and 10 items in tattoo parlors. See the news release for details.
In general APIC advises
- First impressions are important! The salon (nail or tattoo) should look and smell clean.
- Speak up and feel free to ask questions.
- If you suspect that a salon is in violation of sanitary standards or state law, call the local health department to inform them.
