A new publication will help small businesses to better understand respiratory protection regulation, according to an October 17 OSHA announcement.
Small Entity Compliance Guide for Respiratory Protection Standard  provides a comprehensive step-by-step guide, complete with checklists and commonly asked questions, that will aid both employers and workers in small businesses, including small healthcare facilities such as medical and dental practices with a better understanding of OSHA’s Respiratory Protection standard, 1910.134 .
Checklists for establishing and assessing an OSHA-complaint program that are particularly useful to medical and dental practices include those for:
- General respiratory protection program requirements
- Medical evaluation
- Fit testing
- Employee training and information
The Guide reminds small business employers that OSHA’s Respiratory Protection standard  covers the required respiratory protection for use against hazardous airborne workplace exposures, including biological hazards.
