A new publication will help small businesses to better understand respiratory protection regulation, according to an October 17 OSHA announcement.

Small Entity Compliance Guide for Respiratory Protection Standard provides a comprehensive step-by-step guide, complete with checklists and commonly asked questions, that will aid both employers and workers in small businesses, including small healthcare facilities such as medical and dental practices with a better understanding of OSHA’s Respiratory Protection standard, 1910.134.

Checklists for establishing and assessing an OSHA-complaint program that are particularly useful to medical and dental practices include those for:

  • General respiratory protection program requirements
  • Medical evaluation
  • Fit testing
  • Employee training and information

The Guide reminds small business employers that OSHA’s Respiratory Protection standard covers the required respiratory protection for use against hazardous airborne workplace exposures, including biological hazards.
