Pharmacists adopt mandatory flu shot policy

The American Pharmacists Association (APhA) supports the policy of making influenza vaccination a condition of employment, according to IAC Express, May, 31.

The statement (check the first item under the Adopted New Business Items section) reads:

APhA supports an annual influenza vaccination as a condition of employment, training, or volunteering within an organization that provides pharmacy services or operates a pharmacy or pharmacy department (unless a valid medical or religious reason precludes vaccination).

The APhA is the most recent organization to join the IAC’s (Immunization Action Committee) Honor Roll for Patient Safety, which recognizes hospitals, medical practices, professional organizations, and government entities that have taken a stand for patient safety by implementing mandatory influenza vaccination policies for healthcare workers.
