Guidelines released by the CDC for infection prevention in outpatient care settings

The CDC released its guidelines and recommendations for outpatient ambulatory care settings on May 17 entitled Guide to Infection Prevention in Outpatient Settings: Minimum Expectations for Safe Care.

The guidelines offer ambulatory setting recommendations for:

  • Administrators looking to develop infection prevention programs
  • Education and training for healthcare workers
  • Hospital-acquired infection surveillance and reporting
  • Hand hygiene
  • Personal protective equipment (PPE) use
  • Safe injection practices
  • Environmental surface cleaning
  • Cleaning of reusable medical equipment
  • Respiratory hygiene
