The American Medical Association (AMA) is asking for help in collecting basic medical instruments: stethoscopes.
New or gently used stethoscopes can be donated to WorldScopes, which is an initiative of the AMA Foundation that strives to distribute donated stethoscopes, AMA said in a December 20 press release.
Though stethoscopes are considered one of the most basic medical instruments, they’re also a very vital instrument. AMA President, Cecil Wilson, MD, said in the press release that over 9,000 stethoscopes have been donated around the world.
“In many parts of the world access to this important tool is severely limited, and many physicians have to treat the sick and suffering without it,” Wilson said in the press release.
WorldScopes has delivered stethoscopes to Haiti following the earthquake, and to the University of Zimbabwe in Africa to educate African medical students.
