Washington state hospitals lead in worker flu immunizations

With 94 of Washington state’s 98 hospitals having adopted policies requiring workers to get immunized for influenza, it appears that the state is leading all other states in efforts to protect patients from the flu.

The immunization policies of Washington hospitals will cover 99% of inpatient hospital beds in the state, according to a November 9 Washington State Hospital Association news release [1].

Policies require “workers to either get immunized against the flu or take another patient protective action as determined by the hospital’s infection control program,” according to the news release.
