Update: NJ doctor suspended indefinitely
Yesterday we blogged about the New Jersey oncologist, Dr. Parvez Dara, who had his license temporarily suspended on an emergency basis last Friday, April 3 for unsafe infection control practices. NJ officials suspect Dara was the source of a hepatitis B outbreak, and have warned nearly 3,000 people to get tested for hepatitis B, hepatitis C, and HIV.
On Wednesday afternoon state regulators suspended Dara’s medical license indefinitely, according to the Associated Press (AP). Dara’s lawyer, Robert Conroy, told the AP that Dara’s suspension was “grossly unfair,” and pleaded with the court to reinstate the license or at least allow him to perform c0nsultations and exams.
The state however ruled that Dara’s “continued practice would present clear and present danger to public health, safety and welfare.”
Read our previous post for background on the investigation, and a rundown of what state regulators found during their inspection.
