Ask the expert—Electronic MSDS systems
Q: Is putting our material safety data sheet (MSDS) binder online in compliance with OSHA?
A: OSHA says it is okay to have an online MSDS system, but you should have plans for backup in case your system goes down, according to the interpretation letter “Clarification of systems for electronic access to MSDS.” The interpretation letter also states that your system must not impede employees from retrieving an electronic MSDS because of a lack of training or access restriction.
For more information on selecting online MSDS systems, see the special report on the Tools page.
