Q: Must we have an evacuation plan even if we have only a few employees?
A: OSHA requires an evacuation plan for workplaces. Plans for small facilities, 10 or fewer employees, may be conveyed orally. Facilities with 11 or more employees must have a written plan.
From a risk-management standpoint, it makes sense for smaller practices to have some sort of plan readily available. Draw your floor plan on graph paper and note the location of exits and fire extinguishers. Also, note steps to take in the event of a fire or other emergency.
