Do you have any idea what the 3.0 for swing bed will look like? Will it be a shorter form, similar to an MPAF, or will it be a full MDS?

I couldn’t agree with you more. Why then, doesn’t the nursing home industry support training their employees about this. Attempts to get special dementia training regulated in our state are always met with the nursing home industry pressuring our legislators to kill the bill.

Since the MDS is an intradisiplinary tool that drives patient care, it makes perfect sense to me that the activity director would be involved in the MDS data collection process. Each resident has their own individual needs, and an assessment of each resident’s interests and abilities is vital in planning activities that meet each resident’s special needs.

Thank you California for getting the ball rolling. This is a great achievment for nursing home consumers and their families. The nursing home industry hates this rating system because it exposes the poor care they so often provide. Unfortunately, this doesn’t go into effect until 2011 which will give the industry plenty of time to continue to attempt to buy politicians who will request that CMS kill this system. Watch this one.

Does the person filling out the Activities section on the MDS have to be a certified Activity director or would it have to be co-signed by a certified activity director? It seems a waste of the certified person to be doing paper work and not activities.
