Q: When delivering the questions in Section D (Mood) to the residents, is it permissible to change the order in which they are asked? I interpret the RAI User’s Manual as requiring that the interviewer ask first about the symptom presence before asking about symptom frequency. For example, can you ask question C1 first?

A: According to the RAI User’s Manual, the instructions for interviewing the resident under Steps for Assessment require sequential order: “Each question must be asked in sequence to assess presence (column 1) and frequency (column 2) before proceeding to the next question.” (See the bullet under instruction 10.)
