A Medicare 5-day is set for day 8 and the 14-day for day 13. The COT assessment for the RUG set from the 5-day would be due on day 15. Do we still assess for a COT even though the 14-day ARD is earlier?
Q: A Medicare 5-day is set for day 8 and the 14-day for day 13. The COT assessment for the RUG set from the 5-day would be due on day 15. Do we still assess for a COT even though the 14-day ARD is earlier? In our computer, in this situation the COT assessment that is projected from the 5-day disappears after the 14-day is created.
A: Since the ARD of the 14-day Medicare assessment is contained within the COT window, there is no need to complete the first COT that would have been due on day 15. The 14-day assessment changes the rate, if necessary. Your next COT assessment window would open on day 14 (day after the ARD of the 14-day assessment). Your computer software is calculating this correctly in accordance with the guidance currently available.
