Baucus bill set to be unveiled

Senate Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus, D-MT, plans to reveal his much-anticipated healthcare reform bill this week, allowing the committee to begin work on the proposal in the coming days, according to Kaiser Health News.

It’s expected that the bill, which the Congressional Budget Office estimates will cost under $880 billion over the next 10 years, will eventually be combined with a bill previously approved by the Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee. Baucus has spent months discussing options with several key democrats and republicans – known as the “Gang of Six” – in the hope of making bipartisan progress. The plan does not include a public insurance option, which had been President Barack Obama’s initiative, but negotiations continue within the group over Medicaid funding, immigration, and general affordability.
