New under the MDS 3.0: Several change in status items eliminated

Several of the “change in status” items found at the end of MDS 2.0 sections, such as change in cognitive status since 90 days ago or change in communication/hearing, are not present on the most recent MDS 3.0 draft.

The draft does retain change in behavioral or other symptoms under Section E, Behavior.

The old change in status items required nursing home staff members to identify whether a resident’s condition improved, remained the same, or declined on the current assessment compared to the item status of 90 days ago, or since last assessment, if completed less than 90 days ago.
