Win free registration to the upcoming CRC Symposium

We know budgets are tight.  So, in an effort to make this year’s CRC Symposium in Las Vegas (May 14-15) as accessible for as many people as possible, we’ve decided to do something a little bit different.  In short, we’ve decided to have a weekly drawing for free registration to the symposium.  You’ll still have to pay for your airfare as well as hotel room at Caesar’s Palace, but not the $995 registration fee.

So, what’s the catch?  All that’s required to get into the weekly drawing is that you submit something your fellow MSPs will find helpful and enlightening (and maybe even entertaining, all at the same time).  It can be anything like a form or tool you’ve found particularly helpful, a story about The Joint Commission’s latest visit, some kind of best practice you’d like to share, or maybe a story about how you resolved some kind of privileging dispute.  Just email your contribution to me at tmorrison@hcpro.com and I’ll post it right away.

We’ll announce each week’s winner on Friday at noon. The first drawing will be this Friday, April 3, and the last drawing will take place on April 24th. Feel free to email me for details.  Good luck!

  1. Our visit last week from TJC was enlightening in several ways. the “kinder and more gentle” tone of the surveyor provided an atmosphere in which good ideas from us and from them could be shared. Here are a few short ideas that were shared by us and them that could help others further the cause of patient safety .
*Identifying Vendors in the OR or procedural areas by different colored hats
    * When surveyors are there don’t hesitate to correct anything you can during the survey to show them compliance. You will be glad in the long run.
*Don’t underestimate the value of that second time out if a surgery requires two physicians who begin work at different times.
*Practice with your staff by doing Tracers. It helps all involved when the survey actually occurs.
    * Review all areas thoroughly where medications are administered for security issues.
    * Use the survey activity guide to guide your preparation for an actual survey. Distribute sections of it to your leadership team, pharmacy and other appropriate teams to help them to know exactly what to expect. This pays off!
    * Include physicians in as many system tracers as possible. Educate physicians ahead of the survey to help them to know what to expect if they are questioned by the surveyor.

Those are a few words to the wise. We were pleased with our survey and did many of the things listed above. Good Luck!
