Next quarterly conference call to be held Thursday, August 27

The Association of Clinical Documentation Improvement Specialists (ACDIS) has announced the date of its next quarterly conference call: Thursday, August 27 from 1-2 p.m. ET.

As a reminder, these calls are offered as a means for ACDIS members to network with one another and to discuss any clinical documentation improvement related issues. We have a few ACDIS Advisory Board members on the calls as well to help spark discussions.

We encourage your comments, thoughts, and questions during these calls. Additionally, if you have any suggestions for discussion that you would like to forward along to our advisory board, please e-mail me at the address below.

ACDIS members will recieve e-mail instructions in advance of the call with dial-in instructions.

Thanks,

Brian Murphy, ACDIS Director

Reminder: Next ACDIS quarterly conference call on Thursday

Hi ACDIS members, I wanted to remind you that we will hold our next quarterly conference call this Thursday, February 26 from 2-3 p.m. ET. These calls offer ACDIS members the opportunity to network with each other, talk about any issues you may have with your program, or ask questions of our ACDIS advisory board, many of whom will be on the call. If you cannot make the call, we will post a recording right here on the ACDIS Web site at http://www.hcpro.com/acdis/quarterly_conference_calls.cfm.

Among other topic starters, the ACDIS board would like to discuss the pros and cons of maintaining two separate query policies in your facility–one for concurrent CDI specialists, and one for coding staff. We are open to any other ideas as well. If you have a suggestion for a topic, please e-mail me at bmurphy@cdiassociation.com.

These calls are a members-only benefit and ACDIS members have been sent an e-mail containing dial-in instructions and a password. If you did not recieve this e-mail, please call Sue Calabro, our dedicated member relations specialist, at 781/639-1872, ext. 3116.

Thanks a lot,

Brian

Recap of fifth quarterly conference call

The fifth ACDIS quarterly conference call took place Thursday, November 20. That’s right, folks, it was our fifth! That means we’ve just passed our one year anniversary. Thanks to all of you who’ve helped to grow this organization and make it the success it’s been so far. We certainly look forward to more successful programs and events as we move quickly through the holidays and on to the New Year!

Speaking of successes, we had a lively discussion regarding AHIMA’s September release of its brief on how to conduct appropriate physician queries. As ACDIS Director Brian Murphy pointed out during the call, ACDIS submitted comments to AHIMA regarding the brief prior to its final publication. Many ACDIS members offered their opinions and helped to guide the final version.

The brief provides a framework description of what CDI specialists do in the field and also expresses the simple fact of the growth of physician queries as a process in today’s healthcare world, said Lynne Spryszak, RN, coordinator of Clinical Documentation Management Program at Alexian Brothers Medical Center, Elk Grove Village, IL. The brief “is still what I’d consider more or less incomplete but it is an improvement over the original” drafts of the document, she said.

It’s important to remember that the AHIMA brief primarily targets HIM professionals, said Robert S. Gold, MD, CEO, DCBA, Inc., in Atlanta. Although all panel members agreed there was much to be gleaned from the content of the final brief for CDI/CDM programs.
